You have located The Gnome of the 90’s, a gnome held in the wax hand palm of days far gone.

In honor of the 90’s, the gnome that you have located comes with a very specific quest.

You must email your very own written, visual, or other artwork to berlinfolklore@gmail.com along with a picture of the gnome as validation that you have claimed and secured its little lore gnome body.

Your work will be featured in the subsequent phases of this living art project, further carrying on the local lore!

In the sun-bleached summers of the 1990s, Ocean City, Maryland shimmered like a mythical kingdom by the sea. OCMD wasa place where neon lights met salt-kissed breezes. Every crab shack and T-shirt shop told a tale.

The Boardwalk thrummed like a living creature, pulsing with the laughter of families by day and the swagger of teenagers by night, their pockets full of arcade tokens and sand from the beach.

This was a decade of cheesesteaks at 2 a.m., reggae rhythms spilling from bayside bars like Seacrets, and locals spinning legends of Boardwalk Elvis and tie-dye prophets slinging breakfast subs at places like Tubby’s.

Beneath the flip-flops and sunburns was a vibrant coastal folk culture featuring skateboards that clattered like hooves of restless spirits!

Senior Week revelers roamed like youthful sprites, and hand-painted signs waved from storefronts like talismans. It was a place of contrasts, where families hunted hermit crabs by twilight, while college kids danced under moonlit canopies of beer and beach fire.

Ocean City in the ‘90s wasn’t just a destination but more so a rite of passage, a pocket-sized Atlantis of summer magic, forever smelling like sunscreen, and holding the stories still whispered in the dunes with the faint chimes of the Ice Cream Truck lurking close bye (Maryland Office of Tourism, 1995).
